This site started the way most things start – by accident.
A few years ago I was in Milan with a list of things to do and absolutely no plan for how to do any of them. No guidebook, no tour booked, just a phone and a vague sense that the city had something worth finding if I could figure out where to look.
I found most of it. Got some of it wrong. Ate one extraordinary meal and one genuinely terrible one. Took a train I did not mean to take and ended up somewhere better than where I was going.
That trip became a habit. The habit became this site.
European Tourism covers the parts of traveling in Europe that do not make it into the standard guides. The practical stuff. The cities that reward you for showing up without a plan. The things worth knowing before you go and the things you only learn after you have gotten them wrong once.
I write about outdoor travel, health and wellness abroad, and the kind of on-the-ground information that is genuinely useful rather than just pretty to look at.
